Restores my soul through truth and action!

1 John 3:16-24 Let us love in truth and action.
Psalm 23 The Lord is My Shepherd.
John 15: 1-8 The true vine.
Restores my soul through truth and action. Today's scriptures invite us to consider what our issue is with control. Why is it that so many of us don't like the feeling of being out of control? Why is it that so many of us feel that life would be better if we were in control? Has our individualism and sense of independence left us isolated from the love of God. Do our actions reflect our heart? Do our actions reflect what we believe and love? What do we fear, if God is our shepherd? What will be gain by joining the flock? Let us take time to explore and come to a renewed understanding of what it means to be a sheep and to love not in word and speech, but in truth and action, and through this process have our souls restored.

Loving Earth

Genesis 2:4-9 Breath of life
Psalm 65:9-13 God sustains the creation
Luke 12:22-28 Consider the lilies

Our creed includes living "with respect in creation" in the church's mission. This points us to a relationship of mutuality, and even of love. Beyond loving the earth, we are enjoined even to recognize the way the earth loves us. Embracing this love is the true and essential foundation for environmental integrity, and perhaps the most important lesson for the human race to learn at this moment in history. How do we love the earth? Let us count the ways.

Held in Common; United in Diversity

Acts 4:32-35 The believers shared everything in common.
1 John 1:1-2:2 God is light; walk in the light.
John 20:19-31 Jesus appears to the disciples.

On this second Sunday after Easter it is easy to identify with the disciples who gathered in the small upper room. Are we ready to open our eyes to the truth of the world that we live in with its rich diversity? Are we ready to open our ears and hear the cries of those who do not have enough? Are we ready to open our mouths and advocate for those who are not being heard in our world? What we hold in common here at R-W is our desire and our commitment to be inclusive. How will the Holy Spirit move among us to release the wealth of our diversity and cause us to live out of faith with boldness?
