    The Healing of Blind Bartimaeus

Sermon:

Sola Scriptura
The Reformation of the 16th century was a time when some people were permitted to read the Bible for the first time. The direct and immediate encounter with God in Holy Scripture was liberating and empowering. Reformation Sunday is a celebration of the Bible as the highest authority for our faith. What are the ways we practice this freedom?

Whirlwind of Hope

Hebrews 5:1-10 Christ learned obedience and was made perfect.
Job 38:1-41 God's rebuttal to Job's complaint.

What happens when Job challenges God? Job wants to know if everything that God does is just? God answers Job, but as always the answer is not one we expect. Are you ready to hear God's answer? The Search for God

Mark 10:17-31 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle
Job 23:1-17 Job offers his complaint against God
How many of us have wondering, or are still wondering where God is in the midst of all that we face? Do you feel that God has abandoned you, and yet you feel guilty thinking this? Job is a man of great faith, and trust, for he truly believes that God will answer him even though Job can't find God anywhere. This will be a day of deep searching, a day where you will be encouraged to argue with God, to lament and together we will find hope in the midst of our struggles.

Trustworthy Plenitude

Scripture:

  • Joel 2:21-27 My people shall never again be put to shame
  • Psalm 126 A harvest of joy
  • Matthew 6:25-33 Look at the birds of the air

Sermon:

Trustworthy Plenitude
Jesus enjoins us to trust, like the birds of the air and the lilies of the field. From scripture we hear today talk of plenitude and fullness. But how do we trust this talk in a world in which we hear so much talk of scarcity and emptiness? Jesus' answer is a spiritual exercise: watch the flowers; look at the birds. What do you see?
