Trust With Hope

Daniel 6:6-27 . Daniel in the lions' den

The story of Daniel in the lions' den is the story of one who found protection and safety in his faith. Advent is a time to acknowledge our longing-our many kinds of longing. One of those is the longing for security, safety, and protection. It is not only for ourselves, but for everything we value: our family, our communities, our country, even our world. Today, hope clashes with fear, and we learn again to trust in God.

The days will surely come about!

Jeremiah 36:1-8, 21-23, 27-28; 31:31-34 Jeremiah calls for repentance
Luke 22:19-20 The cup is the new covenant

When will we arrive? How many times do we need to be told that God is at work in our midst before we truly believe it? How many times do we need to be told that God loves us and forgives us before we will live out the new covenant? The days have come! We don't need an interpreter any more, we don't need Jeremiah to bring us messages from God. God has written the new covenant on our hearts. The days have come about and now we KNOW God. It is time to accept this and move forward.

Here I Am, Coming About

Isaiah 6:1-8 Call of Isaiah

Luke 5:8-10 The amazing catch of fish

The Isaiah reading, and the wonderful hymn by Dan Schutte based on that passage capture the passion of God, reaching toward the beloved people and longing for their healing, along with the plea, whom shall I send? Our faithfulness is much more than obedience; it is entering into the passion of God for the world and letting lives be turned and ourselves transformed.

Come about and collaborate!

  • 1 Kings 17:1-24 Elijah and the widow
  • Luke 4:24-26 God's mercy to an outsider

Come about and collaborate!
The story of Elijah and the widow is a living example of the call to collaborate together so that everyone has what they need to flourish in life. Let us engage with one another in sharing our stories of giving and receiving and through the joy of gift economy.

This was a Whole Family Worship service, therefore there was no recorded sermon.
