The Lord Needs You!

Luke 19:29-44 . Triumphal entry, weeping over the city

We have been called to witness and praise God joyfully as the multitude of disciples did when they proclaimed to the people all they had seen and heard. We cannot be silent any more. Friends, do not allow yourselves to be hemmed in, or stifled by fear of the unknown, or silenced by the winds of change. Let us lay down our coats as a sign of willingness to follow where Jesus goes! listen view

Eyes Open

Luke 18:31-34 • Jesus foretells his death

Luke 18:35-43 • Jesus heals a blind beggar

Luke 19:1-10 • Jesus and Zacchaeus

Jesus taught the disciples plainly, yet still they did not understand. Then a blind man came to Jesus, longing to have his sight. Jesus heals him – gives him his sight. And for those of us who will see, this story becomes a picture of redemption, Jesus’ salvation masterpiece, the icon of truth. When you open your eyes, what do you see? When Jesus opens your eyes, what do you see?

I have a problem

Luke 16:19-31 . Parable of the rich man and Lazarus

The parable of Lazarus and the rich man is well known. The scene of one man living with wealth and opulence while another man lives in the gutter with dogs is an image that is just as shocking today as it was when the story was first told two-thousand years ago. This piece of scripture has influenced Christians, inspired artists and is a familiar contrast throughout secular society. The rich man goes to Hades and the poor man goes to Heaven. I have a problem with this.

There's Still Time

Luke 13:6–9 • Parable of the barren fig tree

Luke 13:31–35 • Lament over Jerusalem

Luke 13:1–5 • Repent or perish

This is about urgency. The sins of the people warrant destruction; the fig tree might one more year; after rejecting the prophets, Jerusalem is now forsaken. We discern God's will for our lives and intend to follow, but does it matter when? What are you putting off? What are we as a society putting off? And what is the urgency? How long does God have to wait before giving up on us? What is at stake? And where is the Grace?
